‘Unfinished Business’

It’s pumpkin-carving time!

But not everyone is adept with a carving knife … or scythe. (There are photos online with people using power tools …)

Mom learned the hard way that unfinished business is not acceptable when it comes to Jack O’Lanterns:

I’m going to write this with a brush
the outraged pumpkin on the page
with one eye only and half a mouth
a loaf by his side
with the knife engaged

Finish me up he crookedly cries
an ample nose and a second eye
the dark is coming and we will need
the rest of my grin for the ghosts to read

Light up my candle and angle my hat
christen me Jack
and that will be that !
