A teen no more
Happy Birthday to James – as you turn 20, that means Dad and I no longer have any teenagers. (Yes, it’s all about us.)
Tom became a teen in 1997, so that means we’ve have teen(s) in the house for 22 years.
Other parents don’t particularly like to hear this, but our three “brudders” were never a bother. No real “terrible twos” or teen-angst years to grit our teeth through. Just three extremely likable, reasonable, hard-working, kind, creative, and amusing lads.
Next to their DNA, what they had in common the most growing up was music. And the louder the better.
From piano to drums, guitar – acoustic and electric, voice, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, and the marching-band equivalent of the latter two. Oh, and bagpipes for John one Christmas. The house was always filled with music and I dreaded the day it would grow quiet.
James saw to it that the “quiet” thing will not happen, as he just released his first “In the Basement” EP:

When I say “his” music, I mean the whole shebang. Soup to nuts. Lyrics, music, instruments, recording, mixing.
Once again, I shake my head.
Twenty years ago, I rocked my newborn to sleep singing Sweet Baby James. Then it was Metallica, metal, punk, grunge. And at long last, the Beatles (another story for another day).
Many happy returns, James. And thanks for listening.
