‘One Flake Falling’

‘One Flake Falling’

Today is April 1. Apparently there was a bit of snowfall on this day 22 years ago outside Mom’s window in Madison, Connecticut:

One Flake Falling

With one flake falling
the snow begets a garden for the moon

So April One once green
is slowly overlaid with white
the pussy willows pause
the school bus hurries children home

Some forty years ago I wrote
of such a prank on such a day
I hear the same sky laughter now
and spot the sun
shy preening for her bow

Try as I might, I couldn’t find the writing Mom references from 40 years earlier. But I’ll keep looking!

Nine years later, on another April 1, our grandson Cameron was born! He was Mom and Dad’s first great-grandchild.

Cameron with his dad, John, visiting his great-grandparents in 2012.

Cam turns 13 years old today. He writes and records music, builds huge LEGO projects, and indulges his grandmother in reading aloud together.

Cam, you’re teenager now – no foolin’!
