The looniest of tunes
Cameron and his great-grandfather have bonded deeply.
Over Looney Tunes.
During the eight years of Cameron’s life, there have been a few visits to Connecticut, some Facetime chats, and loads of phone calls.
But Bugs was a game changer.
In researching a bit, I’ve come to realize that Dad and Looney Tunes were born the same year (1930). It was, apparently, meant to be.
Despite hours of viewing (Gary gets in on the act, too) and many discussions, it is apparently impossible to choose just one favorite character.
That means Cameron has lots to talk about with his great-grandfather, and plenty of choices when the urge to sketch comes over him.
Last week, we discovered the Looney Tunes version of A Christmas Carol and took in several viewings of Bah, Humduck! Dad and I were on the phone one of those times, and he chuckled after hearing Cameron roar with laughter. “That’s the sound of happiness,” he told me.
Here’s another rendering:
No doubt Cameron will be delighted to see that his great-grandpa has a warm and fuzzy Elmer Fudd hat – complete with tie-uppable ear flaps!
My grandson is a speed draw-er. He even sets a timer sometimes and finishes his sketch within five minutes.
Cecil Turtle may be an obscure character, but he’s one of Dad’s favorites. Cameron whipped up a quick rendition for him.
Other shared favorites are Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, and Sam Sheepdog. Really, though, there’s a cast of thousands. (Our son John performed Michigan J. Frog’s song and dance routine endlessly when he was about Cameron’s age, so the lad comes by this Looney Tunery honestly.)
Cameron delighted us on Christmas Day with his ability to play the cartoons’ theme song:
Something tells me That’s Not All Folks!
